Synopsis

Views on Slovene as a Non-first Language in Early education. The scientific monograph on teaching Slovene as a second and foreign language (DTJ/SFL) for immigrant children, disadvantaged due to their linguistic and cultural peculiarities compared to their peers, is designed to be  transdisciplinary and brings scientific papers in the humanistic and social sciences, natural sciences and arts, referring to teaching Slovene as a second and foreign language from different perspectives. The monograph contains 16 chapters divided to 3 contentually related parts: Teaching Language and Interculturality, which presents interculturality, didactic principles, developmental characteristics of children and methods of working with immigrant children; the second part of the monograph, entitled Language about Language, contains chapters on development and promotion of linguistic and intercultural competences; the third part, entitled Language of Different Fields of Activity and Subject Areas, presents chapters related to mathematics, science and arts.

Author Biographies

Dragica Haramija (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education

Dragica Haramija is a full-time professor of children literature at the University of Maribor. She lectures at the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education at the University of Maribor. Her basic field of work is children's literature: theories of genre in children prose and Slovene children literature history. She (has) acted in various projects on the research problem. She (has) also participated in several research projects.

Simona Pulko (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts

Simona Pulko is an assistant professor of Slovene language at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts,
Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. She researches the issues of of language and literature didactics and language culture, in the last decade mostly their connection to social language varieties of the youth and learning Slovene language as the foreign language. She (has) participated in various projects.
