Synopsis

Dyes and Decolouration of Waste Water: Exercise Instructions. The presence of dyes in wastewater is unacceptable from both the aesthetic and ecological point of view. The problem of the former arises from the fact that wastewaters, which contain dyes are intensively coloured even at very low dye concentration. More problematic, compared to aesthetic problem, is the environmental impact of dyes in wastewaters. The objective risk they pose to the environment depends on the structural and physical properties of the dyes, their concentration, and the exposure in environment. The course examines the available technologies for the treatment of coloured waters, indicating that there are no simple, efficient, and affordable ways to treat complexed coloured wastewaters.

Author Biographies

Darinka Fakin, University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Darinka Fakin, employed at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, on a position of university lecturer, elected as a full professor. In "Materials" habilitation field, I demonstrate a scientific work in the field of finishing and processing of functional materials. I combine studies with environmental problems, which are a part of the research work. Special part of my research are dyes and colours, from a physical-chemical as well as psychological point of view, and the transfer of research results into an industrial practice. Laboratory for Dyeing, Colorimetry and Finishing Ecology, the head of which I am, has rich experiences with the research for industry. Published scientific papers are important for the development of the profession in an international and national context.
