Literary Text and Literacy Promotion From Teachers’ Perspective

Authors

Synopsis

Mastery of reading and writing is the basis of the entire learning of an individual, so achieving literacy is the fundamental goal of education. Classroom teachers and Croatian language teachers participated in the research. Their opinion on challenges in teaching is examined, whether it is the area of the text as content: misunderstanding of words, text and writing style or the area of the student as the subject of teaching: lack of interest in the topic, motives, and action. Methodical procedures were also examined to determine whether there is a connection between their assessment of challenges in teaching and methodical procedures. The results show, to a greater extent, the problem of not understanding the content rather than motivating students, and they do not show a connection with using methodical procedures. Based on the teachers’ opinion, it is concluded about the effect on teaching literature and possibilities for further research.
