PUBLICATIONS BY AUTHORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR, ISSUED BY A UM FACULTY.

1. THE HANDLING OF THE PUBLICATION AT A FACULTY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR 

The process of publishing at the University of Maribor Press by the authors of the University of Maribor begins at a UM faculty, the parent institution of the author, by developing the scientific or expert field of the publication. The publication is issued by the faculty, and the faculty is responsible for the publication’s contents, its review editing, and its language editing. The publishing process at the faculty (1st stage) and the publishing process at the University of Maribor (2nd stage) can run simultaneously. A requirement for the publication to be issued, published and printed at the 2nd stage is an approved agreement by the faculty. For additional information about the publishing process, you can contact the publishing representatives at their respective faculties. The representatives are listed under “Editorial team”.

2. SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION FOR PUBLICATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR PRESS

To begin the publication process at the 2nd stage, an application for suggesting a publication be published by the University of Maribor Press must be submitted first. You cand download the application via the following link: Download.

You can hand in the filled-out application through the portal in a Word document or send it to us at presss.um.si.

3. REGISTERING ON THE PRESS.UM.SI PORTAL

While filling out the application for suggesting a publication be published at the University of Maribor Press, you must register on the press.um.si portal. You can register here. The registration is free.

4. SIGNING INTO THE PRESS.UM.SI PORTAL

With the selected username and password, you can sign into the portal. You can sign in here.

5. SUBMITTING THE MANUSCRIPTS, REVIEWS, CONFIRMATIONS AND OTHER DOCUMENTS

Follow the instructions on the portal and submit all the wanted elements of the publication.

Allowed formats:

Manuscripts, individual parts of publications or the final copies of publications:
.docx (MS Word), .doc (MS Word) and .pdf (unlocked and not password-protected).
Pictures, photographs, sketches, graphics, tables:
.jpg, .png, .pdf, .xlsx (MS Excel), .psd (Adobe PhotoShop) and .ai (Adobe Illustrator).
Cover:
.docx (MS Word), .doc (MS Word), .pdf (unlocked and not password-protected), .psd (Adobe PhotoShop) and .ai (Adobe Illustrator).
Documents, reports and confirmations:
.pdf.

6. FORMATTING TABLES IN UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR PRESS PUBLICATIONS

FOR THE PRIMARY 16,50CM X 23,50 CM UZ UM FORMAT:

The table must be vertical. The largest dimensions allowed are 12,50 cm in length and 19,50 cm in height.

The recommended font size is 10pt. The line spacing is single (0,0). We recommend the use of the university colour Pantone 7706CP (CMYK 100, 16, 10, 44; RGB 0, 106, 142).

The tables that do not align with the above stated rules will be rejected.

7. GRAPHIC MATERIALS IN UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR PRESS PUBLICATIONS

The graphic elements in publications must be at a minimal of 300 dpi in resolution. Be careful about following copyrights of third-party materials.

9.  Artificial Intelligence (AI) TOOLS

In publishing, the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT and LLM is spreading fast. The University of Maribor Press is keeping up with the development of AI tools, so we are joining the stance that organisations such as Elsevier, Springer Nature and COOPE have already taken.

The authors can use the help of generative artificial intelligence and similar technologies while writing their papers, but only for language editing and readability improvement, not for replacing the key responsibilities of the author, as given to them by their respective scientific and expert fields.

The University of Maribor Press does not allow:

  • The attribution of authorship and copyright to artificial intelligence (AI),
  • The inclusion of AI generated images in our publications,
  • The use of generative tools with artificial intelligence, or tools supported by artificial intelligence, when creating artworks such as book jackets or book covers.

The University of Maribor Press will closely follow the development of artificial intelligence and will review and update its policy accordingly.

10. CHECKING THE SIMILARITY OF ALREADY PUBLISHED CONTENT

At the University of Maribor Press, we use the Similar Content Detector (an tool developed by an in-house developer) and iThenticate to detect similarities in the content of our publications in rpoduction with already published works and to consequently prevent possible plagiarism.
