Synopsis

Seminars in Medical Ethics. At the Medical Faculty of the University of Maribor, students of the 4th year of general medicine, as well as students of the first year of dental medicine, have to pass a curriculum in medical ethics. An essential part of teaching emdical ethics are seminars with active student participation. Seminars, as presented in this volume, cover a wide range of topics: discussions about recent real cases of malpractice or conflicts in health care, theoretical issues, and presentations of medical profession in a literary form such as novels and drama.

Author Biography

Matjaž Zwitter, University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine

Prof. Matjaz Zwitter, MD, PhD worked as an oncologist at the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana. After extensive professional, research and educational activities in oncology, medical ethics became his main interest. He was a co-editor of two books on communication in medicine (published by The New York Academy of Sciences and Springer) and the author of three monographies (Talking about Medical Ethics; Medical Ethics in Clinical Practice; and Talking about Euthanasia). During the past twenty years, he served as the chair of Department of Medical Ethics and Law and the Medical Faculty, University of Maribor.
