Synopsis

Computing and Informatics in Logistics. This textbook is predominantly meant for first year students at the Faculty of Logistics. It represents the primary source of information for the subjects Fundamentals of Computer Science at the bachelors and Computer Science and Informatics in Logistics at the university study programme. By these courses the fundamentals of computer-based logistics information systems are set. Here, their purpose, role and tasks as well as their components are presented, namely their dataware, hardware, netware, software and orgware. Within their tutorials the focus is on computer-aided engineering of logistics information systems at the university and business analytics and decision support systems at the bachelors study programme, respectively. Their contents are rounded up with the presentation of the methods and mechanisms of safety and security in computer based logistics information systems. This textbook lays the foundations for subsequent specialised courses on Business information systems, Information Support in Logistics Information Systems and Processes as well as Logistics Information Systems Integrations.

Author Biography

Roman Gumzej, University of Maribor, Faculty of Logistics

Roman Gumzej received a doctoral degree in computer and information science from the University in Maribor in 1999, where he commenced his professional career in 1994 as research assistant. He was elected assistant professor at the Faculty of electrical engineering and computer science at University of Maribor in 2004 and associate professor at the Faculty of logistics, University of Maribor in 2014. He conducted several international research projects as visiting researcher at INSA de Lyon, France in 1998 and ifak e.V. Magdeburg, Germany in 2002. He gave lectures as a guest professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Fernuniversität in Hagen, Germany in 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as at the Faculty of Maritime studies, University of Rijeka, Croatia in 2018. He is a member of several international professional organizations, e.g., BVL, ELA, VDI/GI, etc. as well as program committees of international conferences and editorial boards of international journals. His research interests comprise all major areas of real-time computing with special emphasis on logistics information systems, cyber-physical systems, autonomous agents, and multi-agent systems, as well as safety and security.
