Synopsis

The 3rd lnternational Conference on Aerogels for Biomedical and Environmental Applications, organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering University of Maribor and the AERoGELS COST Action, presented the latest research results and applications of aerogels. This publication compiles the abstracts of the conference and highlights the main results and innovations. The abstracts address the use of aerogels in medical, pharmaceutical, and food applications, including drug delivery systems, scaffolds tor tissue engineering, and bioactive coatings. They also explore aerogels as catalysts, insulators, and environmental solutions and investigate improved catalytic activity and thermal insulation properties. The abstracts emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration and provide ideas tor future research directions. This publication provides valuable insights tor researchers and industry professionals interested in harnessing the remarkable properties of aerogels for biomedical and environmental purposes.

Author Biographies

Zoran Novak (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

Prof. Dr. Zoran Novak is a full professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Maribor, Slovenia. He is a member of the Laboratory of Separation Processes and Product Design, which mainly focuses on using supercritical technologies in the development and production of new materials. He is the author of several widely cited research and review articles in reputed journals. His research focuses on the development of new smart materials, aerogels, and their applications.

Gabrijela Horvat (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

Gabrijela Horvat received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Maribor, where she currently works in the Laboratory of Separation Processes and Product Design. She has received several scientific awards, including the L'oreal Unesco Fellowship for Women in Science and the Grand Krka Prize. She has also authored severa! scientific papers on aerogels and their applications, her main research area.
