Synopsis

Ecology of Finishing Processes: Exercise Instructions. A special problem of waste in the textile industry represents technological wastewaters, especially those generated during textile finishing. These wastewaters are heavily contaminated, contain various chemicals and textile auxiliaries, have extreme pH values and high COD and BOD values, contain various types of organic dyes that cause coloration, phosphates, sulphates and other salts, surfactants, fats and oils and different types of heavy metals. Textile wastewaters are very heterogeneous in composition; therefore, their treatment is very complex, and there are still no ideal and pre-designed method. Depending on the production process, it is necessary to choose a flexible and economically justified treatment technology. Herein, we must take into account wastewater' quantity and quality, which is evaluated by means of basic and specific ecological parameters.

Darinka Fakin, University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Darinka Fakin, employed at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, on a position of university lecturer, elected as a full professor. In"Materials" habilitation field, I demonstrate a scientific work in the field of finishing and processing of functional materials. I combine studies withenvironmental problems, which are a part of the research work. Special part of my research are dyes and colours, from a physical-chemical as well aspsychological point of view, and the transfer of research results into an industrial practice. Laboratory for Dyeing, Colorimetry and Finishing Ecology, thehead of which I am, has rich experiences with the research for industry. Published scientific papers are important for the development of the profession in aninternational and national context.
