Synopsis

"I'm picking up yellowed leaves" (2022) is a selection of Šiftar's poems, which have been in the making for sixty years. The author's intimate and landscape aesthetic motives, sensitivity to the socially disadvantaged, resistance to the occupier during the war and self-critical thought about the legal profession, whose words justice and truth often escape from definiteness, as well as from any social practice. And as the restless spiritual seeker escapes when he wants to take his "split half" into a harmonious self on the road where "everyone is in a hurry".

Author Biography

Ivan Vanek Šiftar

Ivan Vanek Šiftar, born on 26 May 2919 in Petanjci in Prekmurje, Professor Emeritus of the University of Maribor, will enter his 80th birthday this year as a retired university professor in his native Petanjci. On the occasion of the high jubilee of a prominent Slovenian lawyer, a noble idea was born at the University of Maribor, among Šiftar's colleagues, friends and acquaintances, as well as in the informed cultural public, to publish a collection of his poems as a valuable cultural and historical testimony and expression of personal originality. and the humanistic breadth of the author, who did not mention his silent passions from his prolific legal, scientific and social activities for decades: that from his youth until his retirement he occasionally but steadily wrote songs that are still in spite of his "love". a valuable personal cultural crown from the life of a rationalist among his compatriots in northeastern Slovenia and our independent country. He was also a Republican and Federal Member of Parliament.
