Synopsis

In the monograph ten scientific chapters oriented towards language for tourism that span from language learning and teaching, to lexicography, minority languages, and selected linguistic concepts are presented. Among them is the analyses of the features of the Slovene LSP Dictionary of Tourism, the question of minority communities and their tourism websites, the collocation strength and contrastive analyses of adjective-noun collocations,  the concept of movement in tertiary education, the analyses of  Slovene –German translations of chosen online menus,  the tourist  web resources as part of the L2 classroom, the connection of linguistic landscapes with tourism,  writing skills in English for Tourism, local language variants of personal names, and teaching and learning language for special purposes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Author Biographies

Jasna Potočnik Topler (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Tourism

Dr. Jasna Potočnik Topler finished her studies in the English language and literatures and in Journalism, and obtained her PhD at the Ljubljana University. Currently, she holds the position of an Associate Professor in tourism and English Language Lector at the University of Maribor. Her field of research includes tourism, cultural tourism with its subtypes, languages, literature, tourism and media discourse, and communication. She is the author of several monographs, scientific articles, conference lectures, and an editorial board member of many journals. She has been engaged in several internationalprojects, projects with the local community and students.

Mojca Kompara Lukančič (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Tourism

Dr. Mojca Kompara Lukančič is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maribor, where she teaches English and Italian, as well as a freelance translator at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia, with many years of experience both at national and international level. Her broad field of research covers lexicography, abbreviations, language technologies, bilingualism, and translation. As part of her academic career, she compiled 4 terminological dictionaries and she was project leader of 6 research projects, the latter being the compilation of the dictionary portal Slovarji.si. She was a visiting professor at the University of Pula, Beijing, Bangkok, Prague, Basov, Bari, Estoril, and Tromso.
