Synopsis

Proceedings of the »Tourism 4.0 & Science« Conference. This proceedings contains scientific papers from the conference entitled "Tourism 4.0 and Science", which took place in a virtual environment on June 17, 2021. The papers were presented by researchers who faced many challenges at the cross-section of the field of digitalization 4.0 with a highly competitive, dynamic and global field of tourism. The results of the project, which are still at a relatively low level of technological maturity, are exceptional. First of all, in a scientific sense, as evidenced by the contributions collected herein. Secondly, the results are visible and accepted in the wider tourist ecosystem, not only in Slovenia. The result of the project, "TIM - Tourism Impact Model", received the award for the best innovation in the field of artificial intelligence and data analytics at the Tourism Innovation Summit 2020, which also proves the importance of the initiative and the Tourism 4.0 project in the international environment.

Author Biographies

Boštjan Brumen (ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Tourism

Dr. Boštjan Brumen received his doctorate in informatics from the University of Maribor in 2004. Since 2004, he has been an associate professor and teaches subjects related to security and data processing. He is currently serving his second term as Dean at the Faculty of Tourism, University of Maribor. His main research areas are data processing, machine learning algorithms, data security and privacy. Recently, he has been publishing works connecting tourism and technologies.

Urška Starc-Peceny (ed.), Arctur d.o.o.

Dr. Urška Starc-Peceny received her education in Slovenia, Italy and Austria. Her doctoral dissertation in business communication with a specialization in new media and technologies, entitled “Netlife”, paved the way in 2001 for research into collaborative reality design, in which artificial intelligence and big data play an increasingly important role. From Europe to the Middle East, as an entrepreneur, she gained 20+ years of experience in co-founding several companies in the field of disruptive technologies. As Chief Innovation Officer at Arctur Ltd., she also heads the Tourism 4.0 division. She is also an assistant professor and university lecturer on smart communities and technologies.
