Introductory Discussion on Safety and Security in Urban and Rural Environments: Conference Proceedings / 5^th National Conference on Local Safety and Security. Conference proceedings comprise peer-reviewed papers presented at the 5th National conference on safety and security in local communities, which took place in Nova Gorica in November 2019. Safety and security in local communities remain the main topic of annual conferences, however, dichotomy between urban and rural safety and security was highlighted this year. Papers present the result of research within the framework of the research programme Safety and security in local communities – comparison of rural and urban environments, conducted at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor. Papers focus on various aspects of safety and security in urban and rural local communities in Slovenia, namely on the regulation of the fundamental right to safety at the local level; cooperation between the police and local community in solving security problems; differences and comparison of crime and perception of security problems in local communities; and different perspectives on safety and security in local communities (self-protective measures of residents, corruption, cybersecurity).
