Synopsis

Gaps in Slovenian Entrepreneurship Environment : Slovenian Entrepreneurship Observatory 2009/10. Slovenian Entrepreneurship Observatory was established in 1998 following the example of Observatory of European SMEs and analyses entrepreneurship in Slovenia compared to EU. From 2008, performance of European small and medium-sized companies monitors SME Performance Review, which has replaced the European Observatory for SMEs. Whereas the SME Performance Review was built on the Small Business Act, we have remodeled this year Slovenian Entrepreneurship Observatory. In monograph authors of individual chapters addressed some of the ten principles (areas) covered by the Small Business Act. In the first chapter, a short review of the current level of entrepreneurship in Slovenia is given, outlined on the basis of economic and statistical data. In the second part, a number of topics are dealt with. We studied Slovenian high growth companies (gazelles), conditions to ensure the existence, development and success of family businesses, selected aspects of institutional environment, some most significant challenges related to access to financial resources, the level of the EU single market development, skills/knowledge and innovation in Slovenian SMEs, energy efficiency of Slovenian SMEs and internationalization related to SMEs' growth and competitiveness.
