Safety of Students of the University of Maribor
Synopsis
Student safety is a prerequisite for the successful implementation of the study process at faculties. In this paper, we present the results of a pilot study on feelings of safety and perceptions of crime-related problems among students of the University of Maribor. The results of the online survey, which took place in July and August 2025, showed that only a small proportion of respondents were victims of crime. Students highlighted that relations with other students and professors are good. They have perceived more crime-related problems in the place where they study and in student dormitories than at the faculties themselves. Students indicated the presence of drugs as the most common form of crime-related problem at all the mentioned locations. They assessed that the consequences of crime victimisation would have serious consequences for them, especially with criminal offences with elements of sexual and/or physical violence.
