Political Participation of Slovene Ethnic Communities in the United States: A Case Study of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ely, Minnesota. The monography consists of three sections. In the first the authors give definitions of political participation and conclude that the discussion on political participation in the book is about political participation in the narrower sense, i.e. the partici-pation of members of all generations of Slovenian Americans in elections in Ely and Cleveland, Minnesota and Ohio as well as at the national level from the said states. According to the general literature on ethnic communities in the United States, Slavic Americans are under-represented at all levels of political life, which is not the case for the Slovene Americans, at least not in Cleveland, Ohio and Ely, Minnesota, where they are represented above average. The second part presents the electoral process for the city councilors and mayors of Slovenian origin in the city of Ely, as well as Congressmen John Blatnik and James Oberstar and US senator Amy Klobuchar and their activities. The third part presents the same in addition to the judges of Slovenian descent at all levels in Cleveland and Congressman Dennis Eckart and US Senators Frank Lausche and George Voinovich.
