Synopsis

Accessibility of Digital Products for All. The accessibility of products within the framework of information and communication technology is becoming an important factor in the analysis, development and evaluation of computer applications, websites and mobile applications by expanding the circle of users to people with various forms of disabilities. The monograph represents an important step in raising awareness, educating and training all those who face the question of why and how to prepare appropriately tailored applications and products to make them accessible to all. The work covers the basics that are necessary so that every analyst, developer and evaluator can find points of reference for their work, where they must take into account the requirements and needs of people with various forms of disabilities. In addition to the characteristics and requirements, the paper also lists possible solutions or needs that can be used for customized applications and products. Basic rules and principles of accessibility are covered, as well as recommendations such as WCAG and ETSI EN 301 549. Examples of good and bad practice are given to help the reader identify and verify the appropriateness of his proposal according to the types of people with different disabilities. The monograph concludes with methods for assessing and verifying the availability of ICT products, together with tools for quick and easy review according to individual performance criteria.

Author Biography

Matjaž Debevc, University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Dr. Matjaž Debevc received his doctorate in 1996 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics in Maribor, Slovenia. From 1999 to 2003 he worked as the head of the Center for the Distance Learning Development at the University of Maribor. His areas of interest and work in both research and pedagogy are human-computer communication, audio-video technologies, visual communication, distance education, telecommunications and the use of technologies for people with hearing impairments. In the field of research and development, he also works as a leader and collaborator of European and national projects. He is the author of more than 400 publications. From 2011 to 2013, he was also a Visiting Professor at ETH, Zurich, the University of Zurich and at HfH, Zurich, Switzerland. He has also taught in Villach, Austria and in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2020, he is the coordinator of the Expert Group on Accessibility within the World Federation of the Deaf. He also works as an evaluator of national and European projects and as a consultant for audio-video technologies for Slovenian ministries and companies, and as an expert in the field of technologies within the international standard association ITU as a member of G3ict delegation to the ITU.
