Author Biography

Alenka Jensterle Doležal, Charles University, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts

Alenka Jensterle-Doležal Assistant Professor of Slovene and Slavic Literature at the Department of South Slavic and Balkan Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague - has been employed there since 2002. She graduated in Slovene, Comparative Literature and Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana in 1983. In 1989 she completed her master's degree in Slovene literature and in 2000 received her doctorate with a dissertation on Antigone in Western and South Slavic dramatics in the mid-20th century. During the 1990/1991 academic year, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship at Columbia University in New York. For several years she worked as a proofreader of Slovene at various faculties around the world (in Prague, Krakow, New York and Nottingham), and for four years she was a researcher at the Slavic Institute in Prague. He lives in Prague. Her research work focuses on a) study of Slovene literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, b) Slovenian-Czech contacts and inter-literary links, c) Slovenian authors and writing about them, d) Slovenian modernity in the context of Central European connections, and d) Slovene Literature and Slavic Literature. Until now, she has published two scientific monographs: The Myth of Antigone in the Mid-20th Century West and South Slavic Dramatics (Ljubljana: Slovenian Matica 2004) and In the Myth of Circle: On Woman and Death in Slovenian Literature (Ljubljana: Slavic) society 2008). She has published fifty scientific articles and treatises in collective monographs, proceedings and peer-reviewed journals in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and around the world. She presents research findings at scientific conferences (Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Wrocław, Opole, Bielsko-Biała, Vienna , Ljubljana, Maribor, Nova Gorica, Zagreb, Istanbul, The Hague, Bucharest, Banff Chicago…) She is the editor of two collections and one collective monograph. It strives for cultural and scientific links between Slovenia and the Czech Republic. As part of the international mobility of FF UK professors, she has lectured at Czech, Polish, Croatian and Slovenian universities. She has been a visiting professor twice each semester at the University of Vienna (2010, 2013). As a researcher, she is involved in the projects of the Faculty of Arts in Prague, from 2010 to 2013 she was a member of the international project COST action (IS0901), Women Writers in History. Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture. She is the co-editor of the Zora international collection and a member of the editorial board of Slavia Centralis. She is also a poet and writer (she has published five poetry collections and one novel).
