Synopsis

Rural Tourism in the Function of Sustainable Development of Međimurje: Municipality of Štrigova. Rural tourism in Međimurje County is based on the integration of natural and cultural heritage, local production, and eno-gastronomic offerings. The Municipality of Štrigova stands out as an example of a destination that develops tourism while preserving tradition, local identity, and regional resources. The paper analyses the characteristics of the tourism offer, the role of sustainable destination management, and the potential for further rural tourism development. The research was conducted within the framework of the 6th International Scientific and Professional Conference on Rural Tourism Development held in 2025, using qualitative and quantitative research methods, including content analysis, interviews, participatory observation, and tourism resource valorisation. Emphasis was placed on the cooperation between academia, students, and local stakeholders, as well as on examples of good practice in sustainable tourism development. The results provide recommendations for improving the tourism offer and strengthening destination competitiveness.
