Family Farm Pešta: An Example of Sustainable Agritourism
Synopsis
The aim of this paper is to analyse the operations of the Pešta family farm (OPG Pešta), located in the municipality of Štrigova in Međimurje County, from the perspective of its tourism offer. Međimurje is characterised by developed agriculture, a well-maintained rural landscape and a strong sense of local identity, providing favourable conditions for family farms and agritourism development. Using OPG Pešta as a case study, the paper highlights the potential of agritourism in creating authentic visitor experiences based on homemade food, traditional lifestyles and direct contact with nature. Preserving tradition represents a core value of the farm, particularly in food production and agricultural practices, while also being aligned with contemporary tourism development. The paper identifies opportunities for improvement, including infrastructure development, digital marketing and the introduction of new tourist activities, while maintaining tradition as a key element of authenticity and competitiveness. OPG Pešta demonstrates significant potential for further rural tourism development and serves as an example of successful integration of agricultural production and tourism.
