Development Potential of Rural Tourism in Međimurje: A Case Study of OPG Pešta
Synopsis
This paper analyses rural tourism in the Međimurje region using OPG Pešta as a case study, with the aim of presenting the existing offer, development opportunities, and contribution to sustainable tourism within the destination. Special emphasis is placed on environmentally friendly production, the connection between agriculture and tourism, and the importance of local gastronomy in shaping the tourist experience. Through an analysis of OPG Pešta’s offer, agricultural products, domestic animals, the connection with the family-owned hospitality facility, and the advantages of the farm’s location near Mađerkin breg are presented. A SWOT analysis highlights the main strengths of the farm, as well as certain weaknesses, such as the lack of additional tourist facilities and accommodation capacities. The paper also discusses a planned development project that would significantly improve the tourist offer and increase the competitiveness of OPG Pešta on the market. In conclusion, OPG Pešta represents a quality example of sustainable rural tourism with strong potential for further development through educational, gastronomic, and recreational activities.
