Synopsis

Transnational crime: Study material. Book Transnational Crime outlines modern forms of crime in the light of hybrid threats. The most important organized criminal groups in the world are analyzed, starting with the Mafia to the Triads and the Yakuza. The following is a presentation of the basic activities of these groups, from the issue of drug and arms trafficking, to gambling and money laundering. Special emphasis is placed on the development of cyber organized crime and abuses in the financial world. This highlights the transition of criminal groups to the economy and their influence on politics. In order to have a clearer insight into the issue, the areas of human trafficking, crime related to works of art and the situation in the Western Balkans and in Slovenia are defined and analyzed in more detail.

Author Biography

Bojan Dobovšek, University of Maribor, Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security

Bojan Dobovšek, Ph. D., Full Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor, Slovenia. He was also a member of Commission for the Prevention of Corruption as representative of Judiciary branch of power. He is the author of books and articles on organised crime and corruption and financial crime. Research projects: Corruption and Rule of Law; Informal networks and State capture; Financial crime; Crime and Tourism; Art Crime; Investigating Ecological crime. He was a researching partner of Institute fur Politikwissenschaft und Socialforschunf, University of Wurzburg, Germany and visiting professor on Law Faculties in Ghent, Sarajevo and others in the region. Professor Bojan Dobovšek, was a member of Parliament and a leader of Deputy Group of Unaffiliated Deputies, in Slovenian Parliament.
