Synopsis

Practical Applications of Linear Programming: Student Seminar Projects. This publication presents a collection of selected student seminar projects in the fields of linear programming and network optimization, developed within logistics education. It covers four fundamental types of optimization problems: the production problem, the blending problem, the transportation problem, and the maximum flow problem. For each case, the practical background, mathematical model, obtained solution, and analysis of results are presented. The purpose of the publication is not to provide a detailed explanation of modelling methodologies or software implementation, but rather to demonstrate the practical applicability of optimization techniques to real-world logistics and production challenges. The presented case studies illustrate how mathematical models can support more effective decision-making, improve resource utilization, reduce costs, and enhance organizational and logistical processes. The publication is intended for students, educators, and anyone interested in understanding the practical application of optimization methods in contemporary business and logistics environments.

Tea Vizinger, University of Maribor, Faculty of Logistics

Tea Vizinger is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of logistics, University of Maribor, Slovenia, where she received her PhD in logistics systems. Her research facuses on the application of quantitative methods in logistics and supply chain management, particularly in discrete optimization, network configuration, and decision analysis. In 2014, she was a research fellow at the Centre far Maritime Studies at the National University of Singapore, where she contributed to the development of a model far calculating economic and logistics performance index. She is a member of a EURO working group on retail operations and conducts research on mathematical models far coordinating product flows in retail supply chains.
