Synopsis

Principles of Natural Sciences: – Physics: Textbook for the Preschool Education Study Programme. Principles of Natural Sciences – Physics is primarily intended for students of the Preschool Education study programme and for others involved in early science education. It presents fundamental physical concepts in a clear, visual, and scientifically sound manner, covering measurement, motion and forces, energy, heat, matter, pressure and buoyancy, oscillations, waves and sound, electricity and magnetism, light, colour and vision, and basic astronomy. Mathematical treatment is kept to what is essential, while emphasis is placed on conceptual understanding, everyday phenomena, observation, measurement, and simple experiments. The textbook aims to provide future preschool teachers with a reliable foundation in physics that will help them explain natural phenomena to children accurately, confidently, and in an accessible way.

Author Biographies

Marko Gosak, University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Maribor, Faculty of Education

Marko Gosak holds a PhD in physics and is an associate professor at the University of Maribor. He is involved in teaching at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Education. His research focuses on complex systems and theoretical biophysics, particularly on the analysis and modelling of physiological dynamics and the application of network-based approaches. Alongside his research and university teaching, he is also interested in contemporary approaches to science education and in ways of making physical concepts accessible to children and young people.

Marko Marhl is a Full Professor of Physics at the University of Maribor. He teaches at the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His research focuses on theoretical biophysics and complex systems, particularly on the mathematical modelling of metabolic processes and signalling pathways in biological cells. His work bridges physics, biology, and medicine. He also devotes particular attention to modern approaches to science education and to making physical phenomena accessible to students, teachers, children, and the general public.
