Synopsis

This volume contains abstracts of conference papers by the university professors in the field of applied and theoretical translation studies and linguistics, as well as by translators and interlingual mediators from the European Parliament. The contributions in English and German address the use of artificial intelligence in various fields of language-related professional practice, particularly in translation, proofreading and editing, terminology management, language consulting, and linguistic research. The authors present contemporary tools based on large language models and discuss their potential for automating routine tasks, analysing textual data, and supporting the production of high-quality language content. The contributions also highlight issues of reliability, terminological consistency, ethical responsibility, and data protection in the use of artificial intelligence within the process of interlingual transfer. Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly becoming an important supportive element of interlingual mediation; however, its effective and responsible use requires the active involvement, critical judgement, and a high level of professional expertise on the part of language professionals.

TRANS 2026: Künstliche Intelligenz für Sprachprofis. Der Sammelband enthält Zusammenfassungen von Konferenzbeiträgen der Wissenschaftler in den Bereichen der theoretischen und angewandten Translationswissenschaft sowie der Sprachwissenschaft als auch Übersetzern  und Sprachmittlern des Europäischen Parlaments. Die Beiträge in englischer und deutscher Sprache befassen sich mit dem Einsatz künstlicher Intelligenz beim Übersetzen und in der Sprachpraxis, beim Lektorieren, in der Terminologiearbeit, in der Sprachberatung sowie in der sprachwissenschaftlichen Forschung. Die Autorinnen und Autoren stellen verschiedene Werkzeuge vor, die auf Sprachmodellen basieren, und analysieren deren Möglichkeiten zur Automatisierung von translatorischen Tätigkeiten wie z.B. Analyse textueller Daten zur Unterstützung bei der Erstellung qualitativ hochwertigen translatorischen Inhalte. Darüber hinaus beleuchten die Beiträge Fragen der Zuverlässigkeit, der terminologischen Konsistenz, der ethischen Verantwortung und des Datenschutzes beim Einsatz künstlicher Intelligenz im Prozess der interlingualen Sprachmittlung. Künstliche Intelligenz entwickelt sich zweifellos zu einem wichtigen unterstützenden Element der Translation und der interlingualen Sprachmittlung; ihre effektive und verantwortungsvolle Nutzung erfordert jedoch eine aktive Mitwirkung und kritische Vorgehensweise beim Übersetzungsprozess sowie ein hohes Maß an fachlicher Qualifikation der Translatoren und Linguisten.

Author Biographies

Vlasta Kučiš (Ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts

Vlasta KUČIŠ is a full professor in the field of translation and interpreting at the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor. She heads the international network and translation studies academy  TRANS (TRANScultural Communication and TRANSlation) and the research group Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication (2565-010). She is a member of the Commission for the Examination of Professional Knowledge of Future Court Interpreters for the German Language at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia. At ARIS, she is involved in the work of the Scientific Research Council for Interdisciplinary Research. As a lecturer, researcher, and member of the TRANSLaw and EDU-FIT project groups, she regularly participates in Erasmus and CEEPUS exchanges and attends numerous international conferences on communication, translation, and interpreting. Her research interests include intercultural communication, court interpreting, professional translation, and the theory and history of translation.

Vlasta KUČIŠ ist ordentliche Professorin für Übersetzen und Dolmetschen an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Maribor, Abteilung für Translationswissenschaft. Sie leitet das internationale Netzwerk und die Akademie für Übersetzungswissenschaft TRANS (TRANScultural Communication and TRANSlation) sowie die Forschungsgruppe Übersetzungswissenschaft und Transkulturelle Kommunikation (2565-010). Sie ist Mitglied der Prüfungskommission der fachlichen Qualifikation angehender Gerichtsdolmetscherinnen und Gerichtsdolmetscher für die deutsche Sprache beim Justizministerium der Republik Slowenien. Bei ARIS (Slowenische Agentur für Forschung und Innovation) wirkt sie im Wissenschaftlichen Forschungsrat für interdisziplinäre Forschung mit. Als Hochschullehrerin, Forscherin und Mitglied der Projektteams TRANSLaw und EDU-FIT nimmt sie regelmäßig an Erasmus- und CEEPUS-Mobilitätsprogrammen teil und beteiligt sich an zahlreichen internationalen Konferenzen zu den Themen Kommunikation, Übersetzen und Dolmetschen. Zu ihren Forschungsschwerpunkten zählen transkulturelle Kommunikation, Gerichtsdolmetschen, Fachübersetzen sowie Theorie und Geschichte des Übersetzens.

Natalia Kaloh Vid (Ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts

Natalia KALOH VID is an Associate Professor at the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor. She teaches various courses on intercultural communication, professional translations and translation theory. She holds a PhD. degree in English Literature and Translation studies which focuses on the influence of ideology on literary translation. Her second Ph.D. degree is in Contemporary Russian Literature. She is the author of five scientific monographies and more than 100 scientific articles and chapters. As a guest lecturer, she lectured at the universities in Scotland, Ireland, England, Austria, Poland, Serbia and Bulgaria and participated as a researcher in various international projects. The list of her publications includes articles on the influence of ideology on translations, translating culturally-specific elements and retranslation.
