Implementation of Europe's Beating Cancer Plan From the Perspective of Slovenian Patients
Synopsis
In accordance with the Flagship No9 of Europe's Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP), which aims to reduce inequalities in the EU, the OriON Joint Action (JA) was implemented. Since EBCP is intended for cancer patients, their perspective on its implementation is of particular interest. For this purpose, we organized a workshop at the National Institute of Public Health with representatives of 6 Slovenian patient organizations. The workshop aimed to gain insight into the implementation of the EBCP and its benefits for patients. The discussion focused on advantages, opportunities and challenges at the national level. Patient representatives highlighted the need for improved information about the EBCP, greater emphasis on comprehensive care, eliminating the stigma surrounding palliative care, and strengthening the mental health of patients and their caregivers. This paper presents the perspectives of patient organizations on EBCP in Slovenia, its implementation, benefits, shortcomings and opportunities for improvement.
