Characteristics of Crime in Carinthia

The paper focuses on the analysis of crime trends in Carinthia and Slovenia in the period 2000–2025. Crime rates and the absolute number of crimes were analysed. Throughout the entire studied period, crime rates in Carinthia were lower in comparison to the national average. The crime rate in Carinthia in the period 2000–2025 has increased by approximately 5 percent, while the number of crimes remained the same. In contrast, during the same period, the national crime rate decreased, while the number of crimes increased by approximately 5 percent. Compared to the national average, the average rates of crimes against: 1) life and limb, 2) sexual inviolability, and 3) against the environment, space and natural resources were higher in Carinthia in the studied period. The findings confirm the assumptions on the impact of the local environment on the extent and nature of crime.
