Human Citology and Histology: University Textbook. The university textbook Human Cytology and Histology consists of 13 chapters. The first chapter presents the foundations of cytology. The following twelve chapters provide theoretical knowledge that enables understanding of the structure and function of tissues and organs. The structure of cells and tissues is organized and related to their functions. The work is an overview of the basic types of tissues and for each of them the detailed structure of at least one specialized cell is described. From the epithelial tissue group, the secretory cell of the pancreas, liver, mucosa of the small intestine (calyx), the absorption cell of the small intestine, the reabsorption cell of the kidney (epithelial cell of the proximal and distal tubule of the glomerulus), the surface cell of the urothelium of the urinary bladder and the endothelial cell of the blood vessels are described; from the connective tissue group, the ultrastructure of the fibroblast is described; from the muscle tissue group, the detailed structure of the striated muscle cell of skeletal muscles is described; and from the nervous tissue group, the nerve cell. The specific structure of the cell enables its specific function. The same applies to tissues. Knowledge of the characteristics of cells and tissues allows for a more holistic understanding of the functioning of organs and organ systems.
