Adolescence and young adulthood are critical periods of rapid physical, cognitive, and emotional development, accompanied by increased nutritional and energy requirements. Despite this, dietary habits among young people are often inadequate, contributing to both undernutrition and overweight or obesity, which increase the risk of non-communicable diseases later in life. The transition to university represents a key challenge, as students assume responsibility for independent food choices, often influenced by social, economic, and environmental factors, as well as limited nutrition knowledge. Healthy eating during this stage should emphasize balanced meals, adequate hydration, portion control, and nutrient-dense foods, while minimizing added sugars and energy-dense processed foods. Educational programs, accessible tools, and supportive campus food environments are essential to promote healthy dietary behaviors and establish long-term health trajectories.

Zrinka Šmuljić, magistrica nutricionistike, dela kot dietetičarka v Centru za prehransko svetovanje Kliničnega bolnišničnega centra Zagreb. Njeno vsakodnevno delo vključuje izobraževanje pacientov o ustrezni medicinski prehranski terapiji glede na njihovo zdravstveno stanje. Ena najpogostejših napotitvenih diagnoz je debelost, ki je vse bolj razširjena tako med odraslimi kot med otroki in mladostniki. Poleg strokovnega dela se ukvarja z znanstvenimi raziskavami in študira na Fakulteti za živilsko tehnologijo in biotehnologijo Univerze v Zagrebu.
