Synopsis

On Sunday, February 8, 2026, the “Povezija” recital took place in front of the technical faculties of the University of Maribor, bringing together technology, literature, the academic community, and the university town to celebrate Slovenian Culture Day. At the recital, faculty and students from the participating units of the University of Maribor read their own poetry, specifically from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Architecture; the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; and the University Library of Maribor. The event was moderated by Prof. Dragica Haramija. As part of the programme, participants were also addressed by Prof. Matej Vesenjak, the initiator of the “Povezija” recital and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Milena Ivanuš Grmek, Dean of the Faculty of Education; and Prof. Zdravko Kačič, Rector of the University of Maribor. In their remarks they emphasised the importance of integrating knowledge, culture, and human values in contemporary society, as well as the role of the university as an open space for dialogue.

Author Biographies

Matej Vesenjak (Ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Full Professor Dr. Matej Vesenjak is the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, who, in addition to his teaching and research work, actively contributes to the development and promotion of engineering. He attaches great importance to networking – in mutual relations and the intertwining of the academic environment with the wider society. This is precisely why the idea of ​​the event Povezija, which is a bridge between different worlds, was born.

Dragica Haramija (Ed.), University of Maribor, Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, Faculty of Arts

Full Professor Dr. Dragica Haramija lectures on children's and young adult literature at the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts. She connects the science of literature with reading encouragement; she leads literary matinees for students, works in the Slovenian Writers' Association, and is the program director of the literary festival Oko besede.
